Randolph H. Hastings, M.D., Ph.D.  received his medical and graduate training at the University of California San Diego . He completed an anesthesia residency at the University of California San Francisco and a research fellowship studying mechanisms for resolution of pulmonary edema with Dr. Michael Matthay. Dr. Hastings has published in a number of fields, including:

• PTHrP and Lung Cancer

• PTHrP and Alveolar Type II Cells

• Epithelial Function

• Laryngoscopy under Normal and Pathologic Conditions:

  • Cervical Spine Injuries

  • Laryngoscopy Force, Torque and Trajectory

• Avian Respiratory Physiology

Current research in Dr. Hastings' laboratory at the Department of Anesthesiology, UCSD, focuses on a basic science topic, PTHrP in lung biology, and a clinical topic, the mechanics of laryngoscopy. His PhD dissertation work dealt with respiratory physiology in birds.
